We have several extra murals available for interested parents. These include swimming, drama, dancing, karate and Brainy Blocks. We have however partnered with Kidi-Sportz and have decided that all children should take part in this extra-mural. Kidi-Sportz offered by Tracy is an important aspect of our curriculum. Tracy is an energetic experienced sport educator that has many years experience in her field taking time with each individual child to enhance their large motor muscular development. Tracy provides two reports detailing the progress of each child. Any physical developmental problems are picked up early and can be dealt with. She incorporates a variety of apparatus and activities. Some of these include the following:
Warm-up:
- Flexibility and endurance
- Crossing the midline
- Practice skipping; galloping; hopping
- Develops all the major muscles of the lower body
Balance Beam:
- Gymnastic Balance
- Creates awareness of spacial orientation
- Improves focus and determination
- Building upper body strength
Monkey Bars:
- Insures that the large muscles necessary for co-ordination and locomotion are in control
- Improves fine motor skills
- Builds strength in the upper body and core muscles
- Develops flexibility and agility necessary for rotating the shoulders, elbows, wrists and fingers
Trampoline:
- Strengthens and lengthens muscles, improving flexibility
- Improves balance and awareness of their centre of gravity
- Development of motor skills, both sides of the body must work together
- To maintain co-ordination and balance
Balls Skills:
- Checking hand and foot dominance
- Develops agility, speed and stamina
- Increases eye / foot co-ordination
Tennis Balls and Cones:
- Improves hand/ eye co-ordination
- Improves bilateral skills
- Improves timing and attention skills
- Improves their reaction time of the contact point
Balls and bats:
- Improves hand/eye co-ordination which improves visual motor integration
- Improves balance
- Improves eye tracking skills
- Improves reflexes
Floor exercises e.g. Forward rolls, backward rolls, hand-stands:
- Gymnastics weight bearing skills
- Improving flexibility, agility and balance
- Building upper body strength
- Increased balance skills with full control over arm and shoulder muscles to avoid falling (handstands)
Bean Bags:
- Throwing and catching techniques
- Developing gross motor skills
- Improving hand / eye co-ordination
- Preparing the children for participation in sports where underhand and overhand throwing is necessary
Ropes:
- Improving eye / foot co-ordination
- Strengthening core muscles
- Improving timing and rhythm
- Develops co-ordination
Strength exercises:
- Building and improving core muscles
- Assisting low toned children
- Building arm and shoulder strength using low weight bearing exercises
- Leopard crawling promotes balance, core strength and lower body stability
- Strengthens chest, shoulders, arm and core muscles
Hoopla Hoops:
- Improves physical co-ordination, balance and cognitive development
- Improves the ability to stop with deliberate control
- Challenges their sense of balance and orientation
- Helps them to find their rhythm
